One hundred years of Brotherhood – Student Brotherhood Exhibition – Labradors Circle Seville
The Brotherhood of Students celebrates its Centennial with the exhibition “One Hundred Years of Brotherhood” in Seville
Of the 4 al 12 October, he Royal Circle of Farmers of Seville hosts the exhibitionOne Hundred Years of Brotherhood”, organized by the Student Brotherhood. This event, that commemorates his first centenary (1924-2024), offers a tour of the most important moments in the history of the university brotherhood. The exhibition is sponsored by the Unicaja Foundation and the collaboration of City of Seville and the Royal Circle of Farmers.
Exposition: A historical tour of the Brotherhood
The exhibition is divided into thirteen sections that highlight the most important milestones of the Student Brotherhood throughout its hundred years of existence. In the first space, Visitors will be able to discover the period before the founding of the brotherhood, where the ancient cross of the Christ of the Good Death and historical documents such as the manufacturing contract of the crucified. Likewise, one of the few photographs of Christ with a crown of thorns and powers is exhibited, and the size of the Virgin of Sorrows, which was part of the altar in the Church of the Annunciation.
The second section focuses on the founding of the brotherhood in 1924, including the founding document and historical photographs. The third section remembers the difficult time of the II Republic, when the Church of the Annunciation was closed, leaving the titular images of the brotherhood inside.
Key Moments and Historical Objects
Another relevant aspect is the change of headquarters in 1950, a fact that marked a before and after for the brotherhood. The minutes of the General Council that approved the transfer and the original plans of the chapel on San Fernando Street are exposed. further, Images of the transfer of the images and details of the renovations to the new headquarters are included.
A notable section is the one dedicated to the gold medals and the titles of Honorary Brother, documented with photographs of the ceremonies and titles awarded throughout the century. Also included is the chronicle of the Holy Tuesday of 1973, when the costaleros brothers took the step of the Santísimo Cristo de la Buena Muerte for the first time, a historic event for Holy Week in Seville.
Art and Devotion
The exhibition also highlights pieces of artistic value, like the image of the Virgen de la Encarnación, ceded by the Brotherhood of the Fifth Anguish, or the size of San Juan de Antonio Bidón, which currently belongs to the Brotherhood of the Vera Cruz de Olivares. further, Documents and photographs are exhibited that reflect the twinning with other important brotherhoods, like the Hermandad de la Macarena o la de Jesus Cautivo de Santa Genoveva.
In the section dedicated to university proclamation, Visitors will be able to admire paintings, posters and photographs of the different criers who have participated in the history of the brotherhood. Likewise, Tribute is paid to the artists who contributed to the design of the canopy and the passage, like the goldsmith Garcia de Armenta and the embroiderer Esperanza Elena Caro.
Looking to the Future
The exhibition ends with a look to the future, presenting the design and progress of the new step for the Holy Christ of the Good Death, a multidisciplinary project in which prominent artisans such as Oscar Caballero (carpentry) and the Ramos brothers (goldsmith).
